Using ssh-keygen

Marinus Klasen

Need an SSH keygen quickly? Here’s the command for you.

Copy this, and add your e-mail address after like this: “[email protected]” (with quotation marks)

ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C

Full command:

ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C "[email protected]"

After, you can just hit the “ENTER” key a couple of times, unless you want to set passphrases for your keys. (this is usually only the case for high security systems)

By default, your key will be saved in: ~/.ssh/

Retrieving your key (to paste in Github or other systems)

Use the following command to retrieve your key:

cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

You can copy the output of that command, and send it to your colleague, or paste it somewhere.

Happy developing!
